Function of the Alternator
Power Generation: The alternator converts mechanical energy from the engine (via a belt) into electrical energy, which powers components like lights, air conditioning, and the ignition system.
Components of an Alternator
Stator: A stationary set of windings that generate electricity.
Rotor: A rotating component inside the stator that generates the magnetic field.
Diode Bridge: Converts AC (alternating current) produced by the stator into DC (direct current) used by the vehicle.
Voltage Regulator: Controls the alternator's output to keep the voltage steady.
Pulley and Belt: The alternator is driven by a serpentine belt connected to the engine.
