Car Wheel Alignment

Car alignment, also known as wheel alignment, refers to the adjustment of a vehicle's suspension system to ensure that the wheels are positioned correctly relative to the road. Proper alignment is crucial for the handling, stability, and safety of a vehicle, as well as for maximizing the lifespan of the tires.

What is Car Alignment?

Car alignment involves adjusting the angles of the wheels to the manufacturer’s specifications. These adjustments affect the way the tires make contact with the road and how the car steers and handles. The three key alignment angles are:

Components of Wheel Alignment

Camber: The tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front of the vehicle. Positive Camber: The top of the wheel tilts outward. Negative Camber: The top of the wheel tilts inward. If camber is out of alignment, it can cause uneven tire wear and affect vehicle stability.

Toe: The angle at which the tires turn inward or outward when viewed from above. Toe-in: Tires are closer together at the front than at the rear. Toe-out: Tires are farther apart at the front than at the rear. Incorrect toe alignment causes tire wear and poor handling.

Caster: The angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side of the vehicle. Positive Caster: The steering axis tilts toward the driver. Negative Caster: The steering axis tilts away from the driver. Caster affects steering stability and how the vehicle returns to a straight position after turning.

Uneven Tire Wear:
If the tire tread wears down unevenly (e.g., more wear on the inside or outside of the tire), it could indicate improper alignment.
Steering Wheel Vibration:
Vibration in the steering wheel, especially at higher speeds, may be a sign of misalignment or other suspension issues.
Pulling to One Side:
If the car consistently pulls to the left or right while driving straight, it could be due to improper alignment.
Off-Center Steering Wheel:
If the steering wheel is not centered when driving straight, alignment adjustments are needed.
Noisy Steering:
Unusual noises when turning may indicate alignment or suspension problems.
